Memories of Reincarnated Imaginings
What’s in a name, a face, a color, a place, a body, a history, a movement? With every curve, every turn, every swing, our myths reveal themselves as truth. Cartographies of the body etched like memories, generating a becoming as we set flame to fabricated fictions. Tethered to and wrapped in the layers of our being, our textured territories shifting, cracking codes, “unraveling our navels so that we may ingest the sun.” Concept, Choreography and Direction by Nasheeka Nedsreal. Directed and Filmed by Yatri Niehaus. Music by Fabiano Lima (K’Boko). Starring Nasheeka Nedsreal and Gabrielle von Wäre.
Artefact Dream
An exploration on fluidity and displacement, delving into the shifting landscapes of belonging and connection. With frenetic energy, the film embarks on a journey of memory and imagination mutation, fostering a dislodging of belonging. Shot predominantly in Senegal and Louisiana, it symbolizes a transatlantic journey, weaving together themes of transition and interconnectedness.
Steady Rendering
An experimental self-portrait delving into the intricate realms of personal mythology. Challenging notions of singularity and coherence, this kaleidoscopic exploration embraces glitch, fragmentation and hybridization through collage. Discarded images and videos converge and gain newfound significance, weaving together a tapestry of visual and sonic ephemera.
Soliloquy
Celebrating the complexities of human longing, Soliloquy embarks on an abstract exploration of desire. Weaving dreamlike images and metaphors, this sensory journey invites viewers to embrace the power of sensuality and the aliveness that resides within the everyday; echoing the profound insights of luminaries like Audre Lorde and Adrienne Maree Brown.
Laweziana
Laweziana, is a play on the spelling and pronunciation of Louisiana. Here images, video and voices meet for the first time, to create a kind of transcendental, psychedelic strangeness. What is home once you’ve been gone for so many years? Using collage as a place for feminist, postmodern and postcolonial inquiry, Laweziana, seeks to articulate new visions of both home and self; a liberatory research set amidst soft, wet, muddy grounds. With footage filmed in the cities, countrysides and bayous surrounding Baton Rouge and New Orleans, voices of Nedsreal’s mother, sister and cousin act as guides and reminders along the journey. Simultaneously, the structures of collage emphasize rich, complex histories, traditions, culture and personal meanings; an interplay of fragments from home whose piecing together creates resonance and connection.
Hairode
Hairode, a psychedelic film by Nasheeka Nedsreal, is a trippy exploration and reimagining of hair. Can it be a globe, the sun, an antennae, an entity that stretches far and wide to endless horizons?
